Overview

Cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin have become more popular in recent years and countries are exploring the possibility of issuing their own national digital currencies. At the e-Seminar, the speaker will introduce the development in digital currencies, focusing on a special class of digital assets called "central bank digital currencies", its anticipated benefits and potential limitations.

Specifically, the speaker will discuss the latest development in the widely publicized "Digital RMB" launched by the People's Bank of China, and examine its impact on traditional financial services sector, especially the payments industry, as well as its broader implications to businesses and accountants.
