🌍 Breaking News: Two Public Consultations Opened for Proposed Changes to the International Education Standards
In response to society’s changing needs and expectations for reliable and decision-useful sustainability information, IFAC has proposed changes to the International Education Standards (IESs) to embed sustainability across the aspiring professional accountants’ training.
Key proposals include:
💠 Preparing aspiring accountants to work with new types of data and in multi-disciplinary teams when producing and assuring high-quality sustainability information.
💠 Integrating sustainability into other relevant learning outcomes, with a specific emphasis on how sustainability information informs management decision making.
💠 Updating reporting learning outcomes to incorporate relevant sustainability reporting requirements, including the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards.
💠 Elevating assurance learning outcomes to address market demands for high-quality assurance over sustainability information.

Apart from the sustainability changes, IFAC has also proposed updates to IES 6, Initial Professional Development – Assessment of Professional Competence, to modernize the standard in line with to align with current good practice. These updates include introducing new principles emphasizing integrity, authenticity, equity, and inclusion. These changes will assist professional accountancy organizations, universities, and training programs in evaluating candidates’ readiness for the professional accountant role.
