The Institute’s Restructuring and Insolvency Faculty (RIF) and IWIRC Hong Kong (Hong Kong Network) collaborated again for an event held on the evening of 18 July. We were delighted to invite the Companies Judge, the Hon. Madam Justice Linda Chan, to share her perspective and insights on legal issues concerning the rights and status of bondholders in an insolvency, with a particular focus on the formation of committees of inspection under a Regulating Order regime, which was an issue that the court needed to examine in the Evergrande winding up case. Following the judge’s presentation, a lively panel discussion took place, expertly moderated by Daniel Chow, chairman of the RIF Executive Committee and senior managing director at FTI Consulting. The panel also featured Jacqueline Wenchen Tang, a partner at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, and covered the insolvency practitioner’s and lawyer’s perspectives on this topic. The stimulating technical event was followed by an enjoyable networking session, where over 240 participants had the opportunity to chat and network. We extend our gratitude to Karas So LLP and FTI Consulting for sponsoring the drinks and canapés, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the evening. We express our heartfelt appreciation again to Madam Justice Linda Chan, Daniel and Jacqueline and all participants for making this evening a resounding success. 🌟𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬 – 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐁𝐍𝐁𝐔🌟 It was our privilege to host 44 students and educators from the Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) at the Institute’s office. This visit is a part of our longstanding tradition of receiving a diverse cohort of BNBU students engaged in a month-long summer programme at Hong Kong Baptist University. During their visit, Vicky Wong, Council member, shared her journey as an accountant, and imparted invaluable insights on how she equipped herself throughout her career.📚🔍 The programme also included a special visit to SHINEWING (HK) CPA Limited, where representatives introduced the firm’s culture and latest initiative. Colleagues from similar backgrounds hosted an engaging session, sharinghow they came to work in Hong Kong and entered the accounting field. The Institute and BNBU have actively developed a strong and cordial relationship over the past decade through different kinds of exchange and co-operation programmes. The Institute will continue to work together with BNBU to nurture more accounting talents, providing guidance and resources to help them achieve both professional and personal growth on the path of accounting. 💪 #HKICPA #BNBU #AccountingEducation #FutureLeaders #CareerGrowth #StudentExchange #ProfessionalDevelopment #AccountingCareers #Mentorship #BuildingBridges
